Amazing Final Fantasy cover artist posts his 200th video

GamesRadar congratulates lonlonjp for his amazing contributions to the videogame music scene

You’ve probably never heard of lonlonjp. But this YouTube user has posted tons of videos of him performing glorious guitar covers of some of our favorite videogame songs of all time. In fact, he’s just posted his 200th video. That’s why we wanted to take some time to congratulate lonlonjp on his recent milestone and to thank him for his contributions to the videogame music scene.

The following covers are a few of our favorites and have all been beautifully arranged by lonlonjp. You can always count on him to include details about tuning, capo placement, and the difficulty of each piece. Plus, he always makes sure that you can clearly see his guitar fret, in case you’d like to try learning how to play one of his songs. He primarily performs covers of songs from Square Enix games and often takes the time to arrange covers requested by fans who comment on his videos.

On his YouTube channel, lonlonjp describes himself as a "so-so hard nut office worker." But when he's not working for the man, you can find him playing his guitar in front of the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo.

We know this isn’t a typical story for GamesRadar and that there are lots of other talented musicians who post videogame music covers, but for a select group of JRPG fans who also play the guitar, lonlonjp is an internet icon. Tablatures for his wonderful arrangements are rare and highly sought after on guitar sites, and if you look closely at the comments section for other YouTube users who regularly post game music covers, you’ll find lonlonjp giving his thumbs up with kind words of encouragement. 今日はとてもあったかい日でした

ブドウやリンゴの芽がかなり成長してきました
ちょっと前に雪が降ったけど
植物はちゃんと季節をわかっているんですねぇ

つるバラが随分伸びてきたので
そろそろ消毒が必要なんでしょうね

It was such a beautiful day, today.
The sprout of both apple and grapevine getting longer and longer each day.
It snowed in Tokyo serveral days ago, however, these trees knows the true season well^^

i must take care of some branch of roses within a few weeks =)

アイルランドが大変なことになっています。

レイキャビックにある巨大露天風呂
ブルーラグーンには一生に一度でいいから
入ってみたいと思っていたのですが・・・
それどころじゃありませんね（汗

まあ、あれも天然の露天風呂じゃなくて
火山の地熱発電施設だと聞いたことがあります。
自然のエネルギーって凄まじいですね。

i said "ok! i will arrange it after i finish two songs! Then, please play it on behalf of me =D"
She said "it's ok!"

i am arranging "Wind from the Meadow Totoro" and "Unstloen Jewel CC".
Both songs are very interesting to play on solo guitar and i really enjoy playing them on this weekend. i did not have got a time to record it though...

「日本のふつうのサラリーマンなんですが・・・」

Dart : Bonjour Lonlon, peux-tu te présenter ?
Lonlon : Bonjour ! Je suis un employé de bureau ordinaire, employé par une institution financière. Je vis à Mitaka-City, Tokyo, où se situe le Musée Ghibli.

D : Quand as-tu commencé la musique ? Et par quel instrument ?
L : Quand j'étais un petit enfant, je chantais presque tous les jours une chanson très fort sur mon bureau, après le retour de la maternelle. J'ai commencé à jouer de la guitare quand j'avais 11 ans. J'avais des amis avec qui je jouais de la guitare. On chantait et jouait de la guitare ensemble presque tous les jours après l'école.

D : Quels sont tes artistes préférés ?
L : J'aime et respecte Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy), Koichi Sugiyama (Dragon Quest), Joe Hisaishi (Studio Ghibli) et JS Bach.

D : Comment t'es venue l'idée de faire des vidéos sur YouTube ?
L : Un jour, j'ai trouvé tant de guitaristes sur YouTube qui exprimaient leur joie, leur tristesse, leur passion, leur amour, etc., que j'ai tenu à les rejoindre pour exprimer mes propres sentiments. Ca disait : "Broadcast Yourself !"

D : Quelle est ta méthode de travail pour un arrangement ?
L : Je peux lire et jouer des partitions de piano à la guitare en un coup d'œil. S'il n'y a pas de partition disponible, je peux le faire à l'oreille aussi. Jusqu'à présent, j'ai arrangé ce que j'aime vraiment jouer sur ma guitare. C'est un grand plaisir pour moi d'arranger et de jouer des musiques que personne ne jouait à la guitare auparavant.

D : La musique a une grande importance dans le jeu vidéo, quels sont les thèmes et les jeux qui t'ont particulièrement marqués ?
L : Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest et Zelda. Ils sont vraiment géniaux. Ils combinent une histoire, une image et une musique superbes, résultant en des chefs-d'oeuvre désormais classiques.

D : Est-ce que contribuer à la bande originale d'un jeu te plairait ?
L : Oui si possible. Si les chances m'étaient données, je relèverais le défi avec fierté.

D : Quel regard portes-tu sur le jeu vidéo japonais actuel ?
L : Ils sont sympas, mais j'aimerais leur demander (aux développeurs, NDLR) de faire à nouveau de très gros jeux. Je remarque que de nos jours, ils se battent dur pour revenir à leur ancienne position.
