Deep Impact heavy favorite in Tenno Sho Spring

As expected, Deep Impact has been installed, after closing Saturday betting round, as the odds-on favorite for the Tenno Sho Spring at odds of 1.2(1-5). The second favorite went to Nikkei Sho winner Lincoln at 13.9(129-10). The rest of the field was 20.0(19-1) or higher.

2005 Triple Crown winner Deep Impact seeks the 4th grade one success when he runs in Sunday's Tenno Sho Spring at Kyoto. Coming off an easy victory in the similar distance, he is expected to run up to the finish line if he runs his race. The possible heavy favorite breaks from post 7.

Precure to attempt comeback

Finished a disappointing eighth two weeks ago in the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas), T M Precure attempts to redeem her reputation when she contests the Flora Stakes, a major prep for the Japanese Oaks at Tokyo on Sunday. On Thursday, she galloped the 1,200 meters in 82 seconds with the last 200 meters in 11.5 seconds at Ritto D-course. Shigefumi Kumazawa returns to control her, breaking the post 10.

Ishibashi rides his first g1 winner in Satsuki

Mamoru Ishibashi achieved a long time ambition Sunday afternoon when the 39-year-old rider won the Satsuki Sho(Japanese 2000 Guineas) aboard Meisho Samson at Nakayama. It was the first grade one triumph in the 22th year as a jockey for Ishibashi, who said after the race, "This is the happiest moment as a jockey. I send him out behind the front pack and made every effort to bring out his best run. My first grade one win turns out to be the classic. I am very happy with this."

Late charge gives Kiss to Heaven a Oka Sho heroine

Just like the Flower Cup three weeks ago, Kiss to Heaven produced a sensational late charge with a fastest finish to win the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) Sunday afternoon at Hanshin. A 3/4-length behind the winner, Admire Kiss and Koiuta fought out second, which went to Admire Kiss by a nose in the photo investigation. Running fourth was Asahi Rising with Shells Lei fifth in the field of eighteen 3-year-old fillies.

As of Saturday, Admire Kiss has been installed as the favorite for the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) at odds of 3.0( 2-1). The second favorite was T M Precure at 5.5( 9-2), followed by Fusaichi Pandora at 7.0(6-1). Daiwa Passion was the fourth choice at 8.1(71-10) with Koiuta 10.7(97-10) fifth choice.

A stage is set for the Oka Sho(Japanese 1000 Guineas) to be run on Sunday, April 9 at Hanshin over 1,600 meters on grass. Among 18 entrants in the first 3-year-old filliy classic of the year, the possbile leading contenders are likely to be:

Fillies' Revue(g2) winner Daiwa Passion, 2yo filly champion T M Precure, Admire Kiss winning the Tulip Sho(g2), Queen Cup heroine Koiuta, Kiss to Heaven and Fusaichi Pandora finishing first and second, respectively, in the Flower Cup(g3)

Company storms home in Osaka Hai

Despite the Hanshin soft ground, Company came from behind to land the Sankei Osaka Hai in 2 minutes 4.5 seconds Sunday afternoon. Macky Max took second, a 3/4-length behind the winner. Suzuka Mambo, a length behind the runner-up and a head in front of Silk Famous, finished third.
